About Rachel Urkowitz
Rachel Urkowitz is an artist, designer and professor in New York City. Her work explores the overlap of human-made environments and natural systems, the capture of movement in still images, and more broadly, the relationships between color, time and perception. She has exhibited widely in the US and Europe, with solo shows at White Columns, Michael Steinberg Gallery, NY and Galerie Michel Neff in Frankfurt, Germany. Her recent large-scale installations and projects include “Stay Frosty” with Bravin Lee Projects and Artport, an installation in the windows of Amazon Hank Offices, and a 40 foot diameter tree canopy called hanging in the Resorts World Casino in Newburgh, New York. Her artwork is represented by De Chiara Projects, New York/Berlin.
Urkowitz was an Artist Resident at Monet's Garden in Giverny, (Rockefeller Foundation/Art Production Fund, 2001), an Artist Resident at the Santa Fe Arts Institute (2002), and an International Studio Resident at La Generale in Paris (2007). She has illustrated numerous covers for the scientific journals The Lancet (Gastroenterology, Hematology, and others), Science, and The Journal of Experimental Medicine.
